“How long have you been in business?”
These are possibly our most frequently asked questions. To start at the beginning, my love of flowers all started when I was a little girl- picking wildflowers on the way to school to give to our teacher or on the way home for mom. I always loved nature and was amazed the first time a friend showed me how to identify seeds on a spent flower, plant it, water it, and see it come to life.
So to answer the second question- I feel like I’ve been doing this all my life. Dave was a carpenter- which still comes in handy- but we often talked about our ‘future dream’ of having him working at home.
I grew flowers in whatever space I could and had a few customers. Had a little table by the road and was always delighted if someone ordered a bouquet. From 2007 to 2013 we had a market stand where we had a flower shop and across the aisle- pine furniture and crafts. Barnwood was Dave’s favorite- he did a lot of the finishing. I loved the store and customers but couldn’t love it enough to be successful. We would bring our leftover flowers home every week and make deliveries the following week or people would stop in for bouquets.
Eventually we gave up the market and amazingly- within a few years- couldn’t see how we ever had time to go. Our orders at home were increasing and people were coming to pick their own flowers. We were so busy and trying so hard to make ends meet; there were so many projects going it was overwhelming!
Finally- in 2016 Dave decided that ‘we could do this!’ and expanded the garden and stayed home! We went on a search for wholesale buyers and were amazed at the response! In 2017 he expanded the garden again.
Each year we learn- experimenting with different varieties of flowers. Our biggest challenge is probably balancing the work while raising our family at the same time. We are awed at all of this… the customer support, the growth of our business, etc. Our desire is to bring as much joy to as many people as possible, without neglecting our responsibility as parents.
We are so grateful for our workers, who help with everything from planting, weeding, mulching and harvesting and even sometimes housework. It is these willing hands and cheerful attitudes that help us thru many days. Our children have also helped us a lot and we love the times when we’re all working together. We realize the blessing this is and cherish every day.
The first question we are asked however, is so much more important than how long we have been doing this. It is the question of who we are and why we do what we do. Simply put, Pinewood & Posies exists for two reasons: To glorify God and to love people. We believe the book of James when it says that:
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights…”
Our desire is to give good gifts to people, helping them to enjoy nature, to increase in kindness toward one another and ultimately, to make God happy. Our flowers are extensions of this desire and we hope that every time a person picks a flower in our garden or orders a bouquet from our shop, they interact with and feel this belief.
We are extremely thankful to God for this amazing opportunity and grateful to our customers for their support over the years. We hope to continue to provide great service, beautiful flowers and spread joy as long as we are…
Pinewood and Posies.
With Love & Blessings,
